Leadership Training for Foreign-Born Professionals, Silicon Valley Style
What makes leaders in Silicon Valley special? In a 14-month journey, I interviewed over 40 Silicon Valley leaders [covered in the book, The Made It!] and besides passion, self-confidence and vision, they possessed a myriad of other qualities, which can’t be copied exactly, but certainly emulated. In order for foreign-born middle managers to rise to the top, they have to be aware of the business style and language used by US leaders and understand how to make these elements part of their daily discourse and behavior.
Classes cover:
- Analyzing your leadership style and how effective it is, what tone you set and how you lead colleagues and teams through rough times
- Doing an initial assessment of expectations and outcomes
- Setting up a 360 assessment to give to others
- Identifying areas to expand: areas for success, areas for failure
- Simulating peer sessions for tactful feedback
- Simulating situations with direct superiors to introduce new ideas effectively
- Learning Power Phrases
- Adapting business situations to newly learned skills and knowing how to maximize them.
Methodolgy:
Managers learn, practice and review new skills, these skills are then applied in simulated situations until the behavior comes naturally. The result is that new managers can hit the ground running to be effective, insightful and confident leaders.
